Students are free to opt for a wide range of learning activites:

Flexible Duration - from one semester to one year


Students are flexible to choose their learning duration from one semester up to one year, depending on their study schedule:

  • One Semester (around 3-month)
    - Summer / Semester 1 / Semester 2
  • More than One Semester (around 6-month)
    - Summer + Semester 1
    - Semester 1+ Semester 2
    - Semester 2 + Summer
  • One year
    - Summer + Semester 1 + Semester 2
    - Semester 1 + Semester 2 + Summer
    - Semester 2 + Summer + Semester 1

Most Favourable Period - Summer breaks / Year 3 or 4 of the study


Students are free to opt for their own off-campus learning plan, depending on the flexibility of their curriculum. To maximize the learning outcome and match up with the curricula, students under the new 4-year curriculum are suggested to take the off-campus learning programme during:

  • summer breaks, or
  • the 3rd or 4th year of study

Diversified Learning Locations


Off-campus learning opportunities can be conducted locally, overseas or in Mainland, providing a diversification of learning experience.


Interdisciplinary Module - Major / Non-major / Mixed


There are both major- or non-major related options for students. Students should decide their own choice according to their interests and needs. Depending on students’ major study, student can choose to join the learning programme either related or non-related to their major study. Most of the non-major related programmes are under the Elective category in the curriculum.


Credit/ Non-credit bearing programme


There are both credit and non-credit bearing programmes.

Students can obtain credit units by participating in the credit bearing programmes. Under the new 4-year curriculum, students can take up to 30 credit units for free electives. Some study programmes under the Faculty of Social Sciences allocate 12 units Free Electives in one semester to faciliate their students to opt for the off-campus learning activities. Students can also opt for non-credit programmes.


Student Profile Enrichment


Assessment outcomes of credit-bearing off-campus learning programmes will be recorded in students’ academic transcript, while the record of non-credit bearing programmes will be indicated in their Student Development Portfolio (SDP) maintained by the Office of Student Affairs.
